Overall Rating

Not Rated

I bought one of these in October 2007 with my usual faith in the brand name of Panasonic to influence my choice. Aside from niggling doubts about the ease of use (too difficult to set the numerous functions with just two knobs!) I stuck with it until it just died on us in mid-April. Since then we have had to endure nearly a month without it whilst Panasonic blithely disregard our insistence on a repair or replacement. We have been fobbed off with tales of "waiting for parts" etc. Not the back-up service I would expect from a brand leader like Panasonic. So be warned - it`s not infallible and you won`t get much joy from the manufacturer if it goes wrong.

Overall Rating

Not Rated

I have always purchased Panasonic products and been impressed with their quality and this oven appeared to be well built but it only lasted 6 months. Initially a grinding sound from the turntable then juddering with drinks being thrown around the oven. A new replacement oven was supplied without comment but now 7 months later the grinding sound is back so it seems there must be a design problem in the turntable drive.
A big disappointment.

Overall Rating

Not Rated

NN-CD767MBPQ - lovely name! Sort of rolls off the tongue and yet stays in your memory. NOT. But having searched for it because our son has one and that was excellent, we found our own (cheaper) via Amazon.
It arrived the next day - quicker than promised and worked immediately, doing everything it says on the tin, as they say.

A PLUS POINT
The microwave PROBABLY gives fractional power outputs, i.e. when you select 1000watts or 670watts or 250 watts or whatever, you get a constant microwave output at that power. (Nearly all others give you 10 seconds of full power then ten seconds OFF as their way of "half-power". So your dish boils over in the active ten seconds, rather than simmering for the full 20 seconds.) I think this is what Panasonic mean by "Inverter Technology" but since the (clever) designers didn't tell the thickos in Advertising & Packaging, there are no details on how it works...

DOWNER #1
Sadly you cannot get 750 or 850 watts as an output option. That would make a no-brainer of the cooking times when the packaging of an item quotes times for these power levels. Calculating the cooking time for 1000watts when they quote a time for 850watts SHOULD not only involve multiplying by 850/1000 but also a correction factor based on the water content of the dish/food and its physical dimensions (as the water content generates the heat under microwave influence, and depth penetration of the heat into the food depends on the power output. (And the heat conductivity of the food to calculate the standing time, which is also dependent on water content etc etc)

DOWNER #2
The memory function does not store multiple cooking times/powers. That makes it useless. As there are only three memories and each just stores one power level for one time interval it is quicker to program the cooking details manually each time than recall a memory. No chance of "2 minutes full power, then 1 minute's standing time followed by 30 seconds at half power" at the push of a button. Irritating.

DOWNER #3
Not really to do with the unit, but it IS a little on the large side front-to-back, and half of the selling websites quoted the INTERNAL dimensions as if they were the EXTERNAL sizes!! So unreliable were they that we had to ring our son to measure his. Ours is 305mm high, 507mm wide and 470mm deep at the centre. As we push it into a corner, the deep bit goes into the apex of the corner and the apparent depth is only 370mm (That is - it fits into a CORNER as if it was only 370mm front-to-back, with the big bit poking into the corner like an old-fashioned TV)

DOWNER #4
Not a big one, this... The grill works very well but is no faster doing ONE side of a slice of toast than our toaster is doing both sides

DOWNER #5
Picky, but true - there's a lot of stuff (a microwave-full of stands and dishes) that you use when grilling or oven-ing that is in the way when microwaving - ideally needs half a cupboard to store it out of the way.

DOWNER #6
To be expected, as it is an oven and a grill you can't store stuff on top of it (it gets HOT!!) and you need to leave much wider free space around it than an ordinary microwave. Probably would not fit into a fitted unit.

OVERALL
Brilliant multi-cooker, as we CAN fit it in, I CAN do the maths (or math, if you're American), and anyway I never remembered to use the Memory function on the previous ones. Our toaster still toasts and we park the dishes and stands any-old-place while we microwave...
Grill and oven? Early days yet on how clean it stays long term, but it's cooking good and looking good, for now!
I am probably the only purist on the planet who likes to know that the microwave power output is smooth and constant and not switching on and off -- that's what that intermittent clonk-buzz noise is on your inferior device :-)
